Turkey Pardoning

During the Civil War, Tad Lincoln(Son Of Lincoln) asked his father to spare a turkey named Jack from a holiday meal. President Lincoln obliged his son and pardoned the fortunate turkey. Inspired by this tale, President Harry Truman pardoned the first National Thanksgiving Turkey in 1947. This White House ceremony has been an annual event ever since.
